Dr. Sovannary Khem – Executive Director

Dr. Sovannary Khem brings over twenty years of experience in international education and community development to her role as Executive Director. Having grown up in a small Cambodian village herself, she understands the challenges our students face on a personal level. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from a prestigious international university and has dedicated her career to creating systems that prioritize the needs of marginalized youth. Dr. Khem is known for her warm, hands-on leadership style and her ability to inspire both her staff and the students to reach for heights they never thought possible. Her vision for the organization is rooted in the belief that education is the most powerful tool for social justice. Under her guidance, our organization has expanded its reach to several new provinces, always maintaining a focus on cultural sensitivity and academic rigor.

Sarah Miller – Educational Program Coordinator

Sarah Miller is a passionate educator with a background in curriculum design and early childhood development. She joined Khmer Children’s Education after working with several international NGOs in Africa and Southeast Asia for over a decade. Sarah is responsible for ensuring that our teaching methods are up-to-date and effective, and she works closely with our local teachers to provide ongoing professional development. Her caring approach and attention to detail ensure that every child receives the individualized support they need to succeed. Sarah believes that a classroom should be a place of joy and discovery, and she works tirelessly to make that a reality for our students every day. She has been instrumental in integrating STEAM components into our primary curriculum, sparking a new level of interest in science and technology among our oldest students.

Somnang Reach – Lead Instructor

Somnang Reach is a beloved figure at our center, known for his infectious energy and his deep knowledge of Cambodian history and culture. As our Lead Instructor, he oversees the daily classroom activities and mentors our junior teaching staff. Somnang has a unique talent for making complex subjects accessible and engaging for children of all ages, often using games and music to reinforce difficult concepts. He is a firm believer in the power of storytelling as a teaching tool and often incorporates traditional Khmer folktales into his lessons to instill a sense of pride and heritage in his students. His commitment to his students goes far beyond the classroom, as he often visits families in their homes to offer support and encouragement during difficult times. He is a role model for our students, showing them that with hard work and a love for learning, they can overcome any obstacle.

Elena Vance – Child Development Specialist

Elena Vance brings a wealth of knowledge in child psychology and social work to our team. She focuses on the social and emotional well-being of our students, providing counseling services and developing programs that build resilience and self-esteem. Elena understands that many of our children have faced significant hardships, and she works to create a therapeutic environment where they can feel safe and heard. Her gentle demeanor and expert guidance have been instrumental in helping our students overcome trauma and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Elena is also a strong advocate for family involvement, hosting workshops for parents on how to support their children’s emotional growth. Her work ensures that our students are not only academically prepared but also emotionally healthy and ready to face the world with confidence.
