Our volunteer
The impact of your time and talent can change the trajectory of a child’s life.
Volunteering with Khmer Children’s Education is an opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful, far beyond the scope of traditional charity. Whether you are a professional educator, a university student, or someone with a heart for service, your contributions can help us expand our reach and improve our programs in ways that would otherwise be impossible. We believe that the presence of passionate individuals from around the world provides our students with a unique window into global culture and the endless possibilities of their own futures. The impact of volunteering goes both ways; while you are helping our students gain new skills and perspectives, you will also gain a deeper understanding of Cambodian culture and the resilience of the human spirit. Our volunteers often tell us that their time spent in our classrooms was one of the most transformative experiences of their lives, providing them with a new perspective on global inequality and the power of human connection. By joining our mission, you are not just giving your time; you are becoming an integral part of a global movement dedicated to educational equity and social justice.
Ways to Help and Get Involved
From teaching English to assisting with infrastructure projects, there is a role for everyone.
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and offer flexible opportunities that can be tailored to your specific skills, interests, and professional background. If you have experience in education, you can help our local staff with English language instruction or specialized subjects like science, mathematics, and the arts. If you have technical skills, you can assist with our digital literacy programs, help maintain our computer equipment, or even teach basic coding to our older students. We also have a significant need for volunteers to help with physical community projects such as school maintenance, community gardening, and infrastructure improvements that ensure a safe environment for our youth. Regardless of your role, you will be working alongside a dedicated team that is committed to making a positive, measurable impact. We provide all the necessary orientation and support to ensure that your volunteer experience is rewarding and effective. We also offer remote volunteer opportunities for those who cannot travel but still want to support our mission through their expertise in areas like marketing, grant writing, or curriculum development.

The Ripple Effect
The Personal and Community Growth of Dedicated Service
The rewards of volunteering with Khmer Children’s Education extend far beyond the duration of your service and far beyond the borders of the villages we support. For the community, the presence of dedicated volunteers creates a ripple effect of inspiration and cross-cultural understanding that strengthens local resilience and opens up new global perspectives. For the volunteer, the experience often serves as a powerful catalyst for personal and professional growth. You will develop invaluable skills in adaptability, cross-cultural communication, and leadership, all while building lifelong friendships with fellow change-makers and the families we serve. This journey often leads to a profound shift in perspective, fostering a deeper sense of empathy and a commitment to global citizenship that stays with you forever. Many of our former volunteers return to their home countries and continue to advocate for our mission, creating a global network of supporters who are united by their shared experience of service and their love for the children of Cambodia.
Support and Onboarding
Equipping You for Meaningful Impact
To ensure that our volunteers are fully prepared for the challenges and rewards of working in rural Cambodia, we have developed a comprehensive support and onboarding system. This process begins long before you arrive on the ground, with detailed digital resources, cultural sensitivity training, and regular check-ins with our team to answer any logistical questions you may have. Once you arrive at our center, you will undergo an in-depth orientation that covers everything from local customs and language basics to our specific pedagogical methods and child protection policies. We believe that a well-prepared volunteer is a more effective volunteer, and we are committed to providing you with the tools you need to succeed. Throughout your stay, you will have access to ongoing mentorship from our senior staff and regular debriefing sessions where you can share your experiences and receive feedback. Our goal is to ensure that you feel safe, supported, and valued every step of the way, allowing you to focus entirely on the vital work you are doing for our students.
